I do not think the Bishop's report is thoroughly satisfactory. But it seems as difficult for the Government as for Mr. Drummond to find a first-rate Chaplain who will go to Hong Kong.

It might be useful if Lord Carnarvon would see Mr. Field, ascertain his views & endeavour to form some certain opinion of him - though there is no great deal of inference to be gleaned out of a few minutes' conversation.

Can he wish to conceive that Mr. Field doubtless has some conscientious motive, not that I am mistaken in him.
